’Twas the day after Christmas,
and on my computer,
my kitty lay snoozing,
he couldn’t look cuter!
Joni Mitchell was crooning her wistful songs,
Apple Music brought her voice to me,
I could have listened to her all day long,
I was relaxed and dreamy…
…thinking about Kern Poetry’s Open Mic,
the day after New Year’s,
after all the Christmas Hype
has washed over our weary, worrying ears.
What will the New Year bring?
I could ask for more peace and harmony.
Less fear, less greed would be a good thing—
being present for every moment is the humble goal for me.
As I recall all the evenings we’ve shared our verse,
in the cozy backroom at Dagny’s,
for better or worse,
many happy memories come to me.
The bravery of each of us,
to stand up and share,
what’s been on our minds—
we all become aware
of the trials & tribulations
we’re all going through.
This is my path forward,
how is it for you?
This time of reflection
and happy communion
does much for the soul,
Who could ask for more?
So consider this your invite
